Alachua County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with Crime Stoppers and the Eller Media Company have erected three billboards which contain the photographs of four unsolved homicide victims. The billboards, were paid for by Crime Stoppers and posted free of fee by Eller Media. Detectives hope that the billboards will solicit new information on the four cases.

Alachua County's Unsolved Cases

1. On August 28, 1988, hunters found the body of Rita Melton in a wooded area near US 301 in Orange Heights. Sheriff’s detectives are currently reviewing evidence in this case. It is hoped that new DNA technology, in addition to citizen input, will lead to the apprehension of a suspect.
2. On December 27, 1997, hunters found the body of Beverly Springer along CR 225, north of the Gainesville Raceway. At this time there are no identified suspects.
3. On May 29, 1998, Jose Rodriquez was last seen walking along NE 39 Avenue near the Ironwood Golf Course. His body was later found floating in Newnans Lake. Although many tips have been received, detectives have not been able to identify a suspect.
4. On May 13, 1999, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shots fired call at the Hickory Hills Apartment complex. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the body of Shane Crutchfield in the doorway of his apartment. Like the other cases, information has been reviewed by detectives, however, no suspect has been identified.
